Phew, what a momentous journey this years’ #sewtogetherforsummer has been! The deadline of 21st June came and went followed by some serious data checking and number crunching! A staggering 767 garments were entered this year from all over the world – including Brazil, Tasmania, Europe, UK, Canada, America, Denmark and Australia – showing just how universally strong the Jumpsuit trend is – it’s proved to be, quite literally, global!
So on to the fun business of announcing the Winners!
Not just of the Challenge prizes but also the pattern companies and sewing patterns that came out on top – so I thought I’d present some stats for you – we all love to geek out over this stuff don’t we – not just me?! I’m always curious to see which was the most used pattern company and what were the most sewn patterns for the Challenge so let’s take a look (I’m not a statistician; these are just for fun!) :
The Top 5 companies were :
- Paper Theory – 22%
- Deer & Doe – 11%
- Closet Case Patterns – 7%
- McCalls – 6%
- New Look – 4%
If you’ve followed the Challenge – or indeed if you’ve been stuck under a rock – you can’t failed to have noticed just how popular one particular pattern has been this year – we can safely say it’s been the Year of the Zadie by Paper Theory (we reviewed it here).
This doesn’t tell us the whole picture though, as some of these Top 5 companies had more than one suitable pattern in their catalogue! So, let’s take a closer look :
So, yes, Paper Theory have had a blinder of a year with the release of their Zadie pattern – it was sewn and entered into the challenge 167 times – that’s almost 22% of the overall submissions. Deer & Doe’s ‘Sirocco‘, another new release, did admirably with 81 being entered, taking 10.6% of the overall total. Sew House Seven’s ‘Burnside Bibs’ was the third most popular pattern taking 3.1%. Closet Case Patterns’ ‘Sallie Jumpsuit’ came fourth taking its place with 2.7% of the overall (see my review of it here). Admirably, in fifth place, the most popular pattern was that which you designed, self-drafted and made yourself!
The Top 5 #sewtogetherforsummer 2019 patterns were :
Now that we’ve satisfied our Inner Geek (or at least satisfied mine, haha) it’s time to announce the winners of the prize draw – remember, these are always selected entirely at random…
The aim was for us three hosts (myself, Suzy and Monika) to meet at Suzys home in Spain for the draw – however, for personal reasons, in the end I couldn’t make it which was, for real, a crying shame (though I have invited myself hopefully later in the year – keep the pool / bar ready for me Suzy!) Instead, I caught up with them sunning themselves on Suzy’s terrace via Video Call “…chilled glass of vino in the hand and a random number generator at the ready”.
Without further ado…

Congratulations to you all once again!
Myself, Suzy and Monika would just like to say how thrilled and gratified we have been to hear so many entrants say how they’d initially been unsure they’d be comfortable wearing a jumpsuit; until they were inspired to make one and then promptly fell in love! The Challenge may be over, but if you still haven’t sewn a jumpsuit – perhaps now you might like to give it a try?!
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your continued and overwhelming enthusiasm for our yearly challenge. Would you believe we already know the theme for next year?! We do!
Until next time, happy sewing
